A floor that lasts is a floor that's looked after.
A little regular attention goes a long way. Here's everything you need to know about keeping your floors and panels looking their best for years to come.
Everyday care
Daily
Sweep or vacuum on the hard floor setting. This removes grit and dust that can scratch the finish over time — it's the single most effective thing you can do.
Weekly
Damp mop with a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner. Wring the mop well — you want it barely damp, never wet. Work in the direction of the grain.
Never use
- Steam mops — the heat and moisture damage the finish
- Bleach or ammonia-based cleaners
- Abrasive scouring pads or steel wool
Protect
- Felt pads under all furniture legs — replace them every six months or when they flatten.
- Mats at entrances to catch grit and moisture before they reach the wood.
- Wipe up spills promptly — standing water is the enemy.
The living finish
Oiled floors have a beautiful, natural feel — but they need a little more love than lacquered ones. Think of it like conditioning leather.
High-traffic areas
Re-oil every 12 to 18 months — hallways, kitchens, and doorways see the most wear.
Full re-oil
Every 2 to 3 years for the whole floor. It’s a weekend job, not a renovation.
Matched maintenance oil
We sell maintenance oil matched to your original finish colour. Just add it to your order, or pick it up later.
The low-maintenance route
Lacquered floors seal the wood beneath a hard, protective coating. They're easier to maintain day-to-day and ideal for busy households.
Clean and protect
Regular sweeping and an occasional damp mop is all you need. The lacquer does the hard work.
Long-term renewal
After 8 to 10 years, the floor can be lightly sanded and re-lacquered to look as good as the day it went down. Engineered boards can typically be sanded two to three times over their lifetime.
Walls that stay beautiful
Dust regularly
A soft cloth or vacuum with a brush attachment is all you need. Work along the direction of the slats to lift dust from the grooves.
Keep the felt dry
Don't use water on the acoustic felt backing. It's made from recycled PET and water can cause it to lose shape and reduce its absorption rating.
Cleaning the slats
The wood slats themselves can be wiped with a barely-damp cloth if needed. Avoid soaking — just a light wipe to remove fingerprints or marks.
